Mitsubishi Materials Corporation

Selected for CDP's 2024 "A List," the Highest Rank, for the First Time
in the Climate Change Field

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has been selected by CDP, an international environmental information disclosure NGO, for the first time as an A-List company with the highest rating in the climate change field, in recognition of its efforts to address climate change.

Supplier Engagement Rating Introduction 2024

CDP, established in the United Kingdom in 2000, is an international environmental non-governmental organization that operates a global environmental information disclosure system for companies and local governments. The organization annually evaluates the efforts and information disclosure of major companies around the world in the three fields of "climate change," "water security," and "forests," and selects the best companies as "A List" companies.

Our company has identified "strengthening measures to address global environmental issues" as one of its material issues, and is strengthening its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality. We have also set "advance decarbonization" as one of our environmental policies.
We have set the fiscal year ending March 2046 as the target year for achieving carbon neutrality, which is five years ahead of Japan's national target of the fiscal year ending March 2051.  Additionally, by the fiscal year ending March 2051 we aim to achieve renewable energy generation comparable to the power we consume internally, resulting in an effective 100% self-sufficiency rate for renewable energy. In these ways, we will continue to pursue business activities aimed at realizing a decarbonized society.

As specific initiatives, we are reducing fossil fuel use by introducing energy-saving equipment and improving efficiency at manufacturing sites, promoting the expanded use of renewable energy electricity, and promoting the creation of a variety of renewable energy sources, including geothermal power, which is our Group's strength, solar power, and hydroelectric power. In addition, we manage our company-owned forests for the purpose of harnessing their ecosystem services at a high level. Those services include not only the production of lumber but also the provision of public recreational spaces, the prevention of global warming through CO2 fixation, and the conservation of biodiversity.
To realize a decarbonized society, it is important not only to reduce GHG emissions from our company operations but also to reduce GHG emissions throughout our entire supply chain, and we are working with our suppliers to raise our environmental awareness.
We regularly disclose these activities in Integrated Reports, Sustainability Reports, etc.

Our Group has set "For people, society and the earth, circulating resources for a sustainable future" as Our Commitment. We will continue to develop various activities to realize a decarbonized society.
