The company history titled "150 Years of Mitsubishi Materials Corporation" ("the Company History"), issued by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation ("MMC"), has won the 24th Outstanding Company History Award ("the Award"), sponsored by the Japan Business History Institute (*1). The Award has been given every other year since 1978 to elevate the standards of company histories.

To celebrate MMC's 150th anniversary in 2021, a project began in 2017 to compile and publish MMC's history with the cooperation of many people, including internal stakeholders, former MMC employees, and external academic experts. In preparing the Company History, we have compiled it as a 150-year history of more than 1,100 pages, keeping in mind that it should be faithful to historical facts, accurate, objective, and easy for modern readers to understand. (Note that the Company History is not available on MMC's website.)

In the Award, the Company History has been commended for its precise and detailed portrayal of its 150-year history of business activities since its foundation in 1871 (4th year of Meiji era), using various historical materials. It has also been highly praised for its well-balanced description of the development of each business field in the process of evolving into a "complex business group" after the establishment of MMC in 1990, and for its detailed depiction of management challenges and difficulties that arose in the process of pursuing the best mix of businesses.

MMC Group has established "For people, society and the earth, circulating resources for a sustainable future" as Our Commitment. We will promote the expansion of resource recycling and enhance the supply of high-performance materials and products to fulfill Our Commitment.

(*1) Established in 1968 as a "joint industry-academia" foundation, its purpose is to conduct research on the history of business and entrepreneurship, as well as to publish the findings of this research (under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry).
