On October 16, 2025, Mitsubishi Materials Hardmetal Corporation, a consolidated subsidiary of Mitsubishi Materials Corporation ("MMC"), held an opening ceremony and first shipment event for its new plant at OTEC (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (located in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand).
The new plant was built to meet the growing demand for rock tools (bits and rods^*1) and to double the manufacturing capacity of rods in the future. In response to rising global demand for resources and expanding demand for infrastructure, MMC will enhance its stable product supply structure to meet customers' increasingly diverse and sophisticated needs.
The facility is equipped with the latest machining and heat treatment equipment to ensure a stable supply of high-quality rod products.
In addition to supporting customers' business growth in the rock tools industries, MMC will promote the introduction of energy-saving equipment and the proper management of waste, taking consideration of reducing environmental impact as part of resource circulation initiatives, in order to realize MMC Group's "Our Commitment": "For people, society and the earth, circulating resources for a sustainable future." MMC will also contribute to the creation of sustainable communities by deepening ties with local communities, creating jobs, and providing educational support to neighboring schools^*2.

Bit

: A tool with cemented carbide buttons implanted at the forefront of a steel body. Impact energy is applied to the bedrock through the buttons to drill a hole while fracturing the bedrock.

Rod

: A member that transfers the energy generated by the drilling machine to the bit. High rigidity is required to transmit a large load despite its elongated shape.
