Mitsubishi Materials Corporation
Mitsubishi Materials Corporation ("MMC") has decided to transfer the businesses of Materials Eco-Refining Co., Ltd. (a consolidated subsidiary of MMC, "Eco-Refining") to its other consolidated subsidiaries through an absorption-type company split ("Transfer") in an effort to expand resource recycling in MMC Group.
Since its establishment in November 1970, Eco-Refining has been recovering valuable metals such as copper and zinc from by-products produced from copper smelters and other facilities. Currently, the company is engaged in businesses including tin smelting, recovery and refinement of rare metals and other materials, manufacturing and sales of lead alloys and electronic and functional materials, etc., and collection from within Japan and overseas of recycled raw materials to be processed at MMC Group's smelters.
MMC Group is striving to strengthen metal resource recycling and, to achieve this, it is important to enhance the collection function for recycled raw materials such as E-Scrap that contains gold and silver. The technology and expertise of Eco-Refining, which has an extensive track record in recovery of valuable metals, will be integrated into Mitsubishi Materials Trading Corporation, which has a broad supply chain that includes overseas bases, for expanding the collection function for recycled materials in promising overseas markets. In addition, businesses other than collection of recycled raw materials will be transferred to other subsidiaries engaged in similar businesses, thereby strengthening governance in areas such as safety, quality and the environment to enhance the future growth and corporate value of MMC Group.
MMC Group has established "For people, society and the earth, circulating resources for a sustainable future" as Our Commitment and will continue to expand resource recycling toward the realization of Our Commitment.
Effective as of April 1, 2025, the Transfer will take place as shown in the chart below. After the completion of the Transfer, Eco-Refining will be dissolved.
