The Komatagawa New Hydroelectric Power Station Construction Project by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation (MMC) was awarded the 2022 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award Group Ⅱ by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.
The Japan Society of Civil Engineers Award program, founded in 1920 as the Civil Engineering Awards, is a prestigious commendation system based on a long-standing tradition. The Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award Group Ⅱ, the group in which MMC received an award, is an award given to landmark projects recognized for their distinguished contributions to the development of civil engineering technology and social development.
This time, the small-section long headrace tunnel construction method used in the Komatagawa New Hydroelectric Power Station Construction Project, which was started in 2019 and executed by MMC and the Joint Venture of Shimizu Corporation and Zenitaka Corporation, was recognized as worthy of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award for contributing to the development of mountain tunnel technology and presenting a method of hydroelectric power plant replacement under similar conditions.

In the Medium-term Management Strategy for FY2024 to FY2031, the MMC Group has set out "Our Commitment" of "For people, society and the earth, circulating resources for a sustainable future". In addition, we are promoting the expansion of our renewable energy business from a long-term perspective.
