The Introduction of the 7000-ton class press to the Okegawa Plant.


The High Performance Alloy Products Division of Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has been undertaking the development and production of parts for aircraft engines and industrial gas turbines. On November 5th, the division has completed its 7000-ton class press, which is one of the largest special-purpose machines in this industry in Japan.
Other than the production of materials/parts for industrial gas turbines/nuclear power generation, etc., the comprehensive nonferrous alloy manufacturer, the High Performance Alloy Products Division of Mitsubishi Materials based at the Okegawa Plant (Okegawa-city, Saitama) also has notable achievements in its manufacturing of high quality aircraft engine parts. The division has been promoting the expansion of its production capacity with a realistic viewpoint on future business development.
The 7000-ton class press, which will play a major role in future development plans in combination with Mitsubishi Materials' technical know-how, was instituted in September 2004. Along with the production of the main body of this 7000-ton class press, the division started to work on the installation and construction of the incidental facilities of the Okegawa plant in April 2004 and completed that project on November 5th. The total costs involved in these massive projects amounted to 2.3 billion yen.
Currently, the division has begun forging its test model to obtain approval from domestic and overseas major manufacturers for aircraft engines and fuselages and, therefore, the deliveries may take place as early as the beginning of next year.
The 7000-ton class press can efficiently manufacture high precision, high quality materials. With the operation of the same machine, new product innovations, which were difficult using previous machines, will become possible. This will lead to the enhancement of production capacity from the fields of aerospace to gas turbines.
